Community Engagement Hubs (CE HUBS) Workshop in Limassol
The recent HECTOR Project Community Engagement Hubs (CE HUBS) Workshop, held on October 31 to November 1 in Cyprus organized by Cyprus Police, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in enhancing safety and resilience in Europe’s public and touristic spaces. Hosted by Limassol Marina and the Royal Apollonia Hotel, the workshop aimed to foster connections among key stakeholders—municipalities, tourism operators, and security agencies—who play a crucial role in safeguarding Europe’s vibrant tourism industry.
A key aspect of the workshop was the development of CE HUBS (Community Engagement Hubs), designed to bring together local stakeholders to enhance safety through unified risk prevention and crisis management. Participants explored collaboration methods and received training in public awareness techniques, with a special emphasis on designing joint training programs that leverage new technologies. These hubs aim to create a resilient network, promoting cooperation that will improve preparedness and security in public spaces.
The workshop highlighted the critical role of tourism in Europe’s cohesion, with over 700 million visitors annually. Tourist sites, celebrated for their accessibility, also face unique vulnerabilities that demand robust security frameworks. By addressing these challenges, stakeholders can protect not only local economies but also social unity and the trust of international visitors.
Inspired by the bravery of the Trojan hero Hector, the HECTOR Project promotes a proactive and unified approach to tourism security. Its mission is to bridge the gap between public and private sectors across Europe through standard operating procedures, security guidelines, and management protocols that reinforce Europe’s tourism infrastructure. This approach is rooted in the values of freedom, democracy, and a safe travel experience.
The Cyprus workshop marked a significant stride toward realizing these goals. By fostering cooperation and sharing best practices, the event reinforced the commitment of European stakeholders to protect high-traffic sites, ultimately enhancing the safety and security of the tourism sector across the continent.
